Rad Reading – October

(The book in one variation)

For the month of October I read a book called, One for the Murphys by: Lynda Myllaly Hunt. This story is about a foster child who wants to find a family that she can grow to love, Carley( main character) uses her humor/street smarts to keep her emotions hidden. But when she becomes a foster child and meets the Murphys, that all changes… you’ll have to read more to find out.

My personal favorite character was Carley. Not because she’s the main character but because she knows what to do and certain situations, and doesn’t let her emotions get the best of her, although the character trait I’ll pick for her is grateful, ‘“But most of all, I’ll remember how she loved me. I turn away, knowing that I might never get to see Julie Murphy again. But I will know her for the rest of my life.”’ Near the end of the story one can see that she is so grateful towards her foster mom, yet she stayed strong.

When picking my favorite quote from the book it is very hard due to the nature and the growth you see through all the characters after staying together, and having to learn to treat one another, but this quote defines how one should look at the word courage. Since that was show a lot from the book. ‘“Do you know what courage is? It’s being afraid and doing it anyway.” That quote truly shows how people overcome many things while being afraid of that activity.

Swap Day!

If I could swap places with one famous person for a day I would go… with no one. You might wonder why I wouldn’t want to take a celebrities life for a day, but honestly there are many reasons behind it. For one who knows what’s going on in their family life or with their career. I’d prefer to stick with whats going on with my life then have to go to somebody else’s life and figure out what I’m doing.

There were many great options to choose from, but who knows what a celebrity has to do in one day? Are they filming are they auditioning out for a role, who knows. And personally I would be ‘stressed’ with everything going on around me. Even though it might be a great environment to learn from and I would enjoy it, sometimes one needs to step back from that stuff and having an off day. Although I’d like to see a day in the life of a celebrity off of Camera.

What A Day!

From the time I wake up and go to sleep, my day will be eventful. One thing I know I would do is go to the beach. I would be there with my two friends Charlotte and Cam, it would be at Newport Beach of course. The waves there are just so nice, and on a perfect day; which it will be, they are so fun to play in. After a couple hours we would go get some food and ice cream, sometimes we eat on the beach and that’s what we’ll do. Then we play in the water for a while longer, and after that we’ll go on the rocks where the water drizzles over our faces cooling us down.

After we spend the night at my house maybe go toilet papering, then we go to the tmp the next day.

What Age?

This prompt we will be talking about how old we want to be for the rest of our lives. This for me would have to be the age 18. Mainly because I still have my own responsibilities, but I way more freedom.

At this age, you’re able to do so many more things like: drive, travel, own your own house, and more. But at this age I don’t have to be all on my own too, I can still stay at home, visit family, and stay with friends.

I like this age because you still get time to explore and have new experiences. This was a short blog, but I enjoyed writing it.

Poems?

You might think I’m going to be writing a poem, but I’ll be talking about poems. It might be a weird blog to write but honestly they have so much meaning and can be so interesting.

Poems take so many forms and they can be various lengths to. Sometimes they rhyme, sometimes it’s story with little words, or it can just be something short to brighten your day. When I think of poems it’s something that flows with it’s words, and rhymes at the same time.

Poetry was shown to date back to cavemen, it was written in kind of a picture form. And it was popular in the middle evil times, back then it took many forms too.

ORIGINAL :

Still I Rise (1978)

“You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I’ll rise…”

– Maya Angelou

Maya Angelou is very well know in many places. She has written some of the most well know poems. Her poem here shows her strength, it shows how she fights, and how she holds her ground even when things are tough.

In actuality poems sometimes remind me of quotes, they are put so that they’re memorable, so people understand them. Lets end with this:

Nothing Gold Can Stay, a poem by Robert Frost (1874-1963)

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Rad Reading-September

(The Book)

For the month of September I read a book called The Fault in Our Stars, by: John Green.
This book was very emotional, you could really understand what was happening with the character and how she felt.

I just loved this book because I was able to get into the character’s perspective, Hazel Grace, the main character in the novel. I just loved how I could tap in and understand how everyone was feeling around Hazel. They showed peoples feelings towards what was happening in the book, how the family was feeling, and how other characters felt towards her.

When Reading this book, they really portrayed the plot. They showed that it was about a teenage girl (Hazel Grace) who was battling cancer, to be specific thyroid cancer. After a certain amount of time she meets a boy called Augustus. And she has been intrigued to meet her favorite author of all time. But what comes next… Is he what she expected? Does the encounter go well? I don’t know, you’ll have to read the book…

During the time I was able to read this book, I grew to like Hazel Grace the most. Not because she was the main character but because she is a fighter. Even when she’s battling cancer she still pushes herself to see what she can do. A trait I would use to describe her would most definitely be courageous. A quote that can firmly back this up would be, “People talk about the courage of cancer patients, and I do not deny that courage. I have been poked and stabbed and poisoned for years, and still I trod on”(Ch. 7). It can just show you how much Hazel’s been through, and how she keeps on going through her tough moments.

This book has so many great lines, some of that were heartwarming, some that were sad, some that were touching and more; but one of my favorite lines from this book was, “If you don’t live a life in service of a greater good, you’ve gotta at least die a death in service of a greater good, you know?” (Augustus, chapter 11.) In my opinion just reading that makes you think about the message that he was trying to portray, it just shows how deep they want you to think, and how they want you to feel.

What? When? Where?

If I could go into a fictional universe I would probably go into a movie, and that movie would be jumanji: welcome to the jungle. This movie provokes many strong opinions. There are so many reasons why I want to go into this movie.

Lets start off with the first reason why I want to go into this movie. Characters. Characters make and or break a movie sometimes, for example if their original personality doesn’t fit their characters personality in the movie or show. This movie though, every character has a great personality, and they all get along from the interviews I’ve seen.

You might think I’m crazy to want to go in this movie but I have my reasons. I’ll list them:

  • Characters
  • plot
  • places they went
  • their strengths and weaknesses

Honestly I’m when I’m talking about the places they went, I mean In real life. I saw/went to two places they filmed at, and it was so pretty (one place being a waterfall). They picked awesome sets.

Looking at the seen where they were showing the strengths and weaknesses, they all had something funny to say. Thinking about it, putting myself in that scene I would want to know my strengths and weaknesses as a character in that “game”.

Now onto the plot, the plot was “Four high school kids discover an old video game console and are drawn into the game’s jungle setting, literally becoming the adult avatars they chose. What they discover is that you don’t just play Jumanji – you must survive it. To beat the game and return to the real world, they’ll have to go on the most dangerous adventure of their lives, discover what Alan Parrish left 20 years ago, and change the way they think about themselves – or they’ll be stuck in the game forever.” quoted from: Film synopsis/google.

Honestly just reading that gives me chills on how fun and exhilarating it would be to see that if I was in the movie. But working with a group like that you know that you’ll succeed in the game due to their close bond and the way they helped each other during the time they where there. After they got out of the game, their bond changed. They also changed for the better.
